# SMA Energy Meter and Sunny Home Manager 2.0

* The station listens to the meter's Speedwire multicast and picks the
  packets with the **serial number** entered in the *Serial* field. No IP
  address is needed.
* Multicast does not cross routers: station and meter must be in the **same
  network segment**. Managed switches with IGMP snooping may need the
  multicast group 239.12.255.254 allowed.
* Battery values are not available on this path. SMA inverters are not read.
